Ioannis Zaimakis

Project Coordinator and Scientific Manager of the 3rd Research Axis

The coordinator of the project, Professor Ioannis Zaimakis, has the Sociology of local societies and culture as his subject. He is the Director of the Laboratory of Social Analysis and Applied Social Research, with which he has developed extensive activity in issues of research, participatory education and the design of research programs and actions in partnerships with public organizations and bodies. In the period 2016-2020 he was President of the Department of Sociology of the University of Crete. He has worked in the Department of Research and Studies of the Planning and Development Directorate of the Prefecture of Heraklion. He has many years of experience in the analysis and planning of specific social policy issues concerning the development of local social development and networking programs and actions, and as a scientific manager or coordinator, he has participated in research focused on issues of study and intervention in local communities, vulnerable social groups and multicultural societies and protest movements in crisis conditions. He was the coordinator and scientific manager of the overall research program “Expertise Research in Support of the Social Inclusion Observatory” (2020-2023). His written work includes books and articles focusing on the development and intervention in local communities, the social protection of vulnerable social groups and multicultural societies.
