Scientific Director of the 2nd Research Axis
Vassilis Arapoglou is a Professor at the Department of Social Policy at Panteion University of Political and Social Studies, with a focus on “Comparative Social Policy and Social Inequalities”. He served from 2006 to 2024 at the Department of Sociology of the University of Crete. He has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the University of the Aegean, the National Technical University of Athens, Panteion University, Harokopio and the University of Thessaly. Since 2003 he has been a consultant at the Hellenic Open University. He was the coordinator of the study for the design of the “Monitoring Mechanism for Social Inclusion and Social Cohesion Policies” commissioned by the Ministry of Labor to the University of Crete in 2015. He has many years of collaboration with bodies such as the European Observatory on Homelessness, the Hellenic Network for Combating Poverty, the Hellenic Observatory of the London School of Economics, INE-GSEE, the Institute for Economic and Industrial Research, the Institute for Migration Policy, etc. His participation in international organizations and research and evaluation committees such as the College of Experts, the European Science Foundation, the European Urban and Regional Studies, the EU’s HORIZON 2020 programming committee concerns the fields of social policy, migration and urban studies. He has experience in projects and actions related to the present project that concern the monitoring and evaluation of social policies in the form of an “Observatory” and abroad. He has developed collaborations for the planning of specific social policy issues that concern in particular the development of social and sustainable development programs, and networking. He has experience in mapping social data in geographic information systems.
