Christos Papatheodorou

Scientific Director of the 1st Research Axis

Christos Papatheodorou is Professor of Social Policy at the Department of Social Policy and a member of the Board of Directors of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He graduated from the Department of Economics of the University of Athens (with honors) and completed postgraduate studies in Britain, at the University of Bath (MSc) and at the London School of Economics – LSE (PhD). He also carried out postdoctoral research at the LSE.

He has many academic distinctions and has been elected to positions of responsibility and administration both at the university and in other scientific bodies. He served as Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning and Development at Panteion University, and Dean of the School of Social, Political and Economic Sciences of the Democritus University of Thrace. He has long-term research experience in important projects in Greece and abroad, either as a researcher or as a scientific manager. He was a Researcher at the National Center for Social Research (EKKE), and scientific manager of the Research Unit “Social Policy, Poverty and Inequalities”, of the Observatory of Economic and Social Developments of the Institute of Labor of the Hellenic Confederation of Greek Unions (GSEE). He was a visiting researcher at LSE-STICERD and a visiting professor at the VU University Amsterdam. He served as an expert in the Cooperation–Socioeconomic Sciences and Humanities Committee of the 7th Framework Programme for Research & Technological Development, and a member of the thematic committee for Social Sciences and Humanities for the specialization of NSRF actions.

He has significant written work in Greek and foreign language books, scientific journals, scientific series and research reports. His research interests and publications focus on issues of political economy of social policy, economic and social inequality, poverty and deprivation, macroeconomic environment and social protection.
