Christos Papatheodorou

Christos Papatheodorou is Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning & Development, Professor of Social and Policy and Director of Postgraduate Studies at the Department of Social Policy, of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Athens, Greece).

He is a graduate in Economics (First Class Hons) from the Department of Economic Sciences, University of Athens and holds an MSc in Social Policy Analysis from the University of Bath and a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has won many academic distinctions and has been elected in positions of responsibility and management in the university and other scientific institutions. He was Dean of the School of Social, Political and Economic Sciences and Professor of Social Policy at the Democritus University of Thrace (Greece), a researcher at the National Centre for Social Research (Athens), a postdoctoral researcher (postdoctoral fellow) at LSE-STICERD, head of the Research Unit “Social Policy, Poverty and Inequalities” at the Labour Institute, Greek General Confederation of Labour, a senior research associate for the “Greek Observatory on Poverty, Inequalities, Income and Social Exclusion”, UADPhilEcon, University of Athens, a visiting academic at LSE-STICERD and a visiting professor at VU Amsterdam. He was an expert (2009-2010) in the Greek Committee Cooperation Socioeconomic Sciences and Humanities of the 7th Framework Program Founded European Research and Technological Development, National Strategic Reference Framework (ESPA) 2007-2013, and a member of the committee for the Social and Human Sciences.

His main areas of research interests and publications are in the fields of the political economy of social policy, social and economic inequalities, income distribution and redistribution, poverty and social exclusion, distributional impact of government policies, macroeconomic environment and social protection. He has participated in and coordinated a large number of research projects in the above fields. His work has been published in books, research monographs, articles, book chapters and research reports, and has been presented in many conferences.
